Since the changeover from February to March there's been a few more interesting birds turning up at Beddington Farmlands and adding to the ever-building excitement for spring. Marcus Kohler found a Rock Pipit on 26th Feb (last one here was 2021). It was last seen on 4th March. Also in March has been: an Oystercatcher that I found on the 2nd that stayed until the 5th, the site's first singing Blackcap of the year on the 3rd, a Raven on the 5th, Glenn's Great White Egret on the 8th and a Curlew found by Derek Coleman on the 10th. Yesterday I had the first Sand Martins of the year turn up. They briefly fed around the southern half of the North Lake before vanishing. A small passage of Mediterranean Gulls also started up here this weekend. I had two adults yesterday and then two adults and a 2nd cycle bird today (one of which I believe to be one of the birds from Saturday) on Phase 3 Wet Grassland whilst Nick Gardner had another 4 birds on Phase 1 Wet Grassland at the same time. Interestingly, Rich Seargent reported a total of 12 Med Gulls from Tice's Meadow today as well so seems to have been a movement across Surrey today. Full eBird list from today here. Things are obviously picking up now and soon we should have our first Little Ringed Plovers back and a Wheatear or two as well. Last year we had to wait until April for our first Wheatear of the year here so I hope we aren't made to wait that long again!
